It's Seattle or San Diego
in 2010

Thanks to all who took the time to recommend their city in the "Bring Expandability to your City" contest.

At the 2008 Expandable Users Conference in San Francisco, attendees voted on which cities they thought we should look at for 2010. The top two cities ended up being Seattle and San Diego.

Expandable Training Center Goes Green

New monitors, keyboard and mice, along with a whole new virtualized computing environment is what Expandable customers will experience when they attend classes at the recently upgraded Expandable training center.

"We've completely overhauled the training center," said Beth Herner, Expandable's Training Manager. "We replaced all the old displays with brand new flat-panel monitors and gotten rid of all the computer boxes in favor of more energy efficient virtual desktops."

The new virtual desktops consume only about 5% of the power that stand-alone PCs burn, and they generate much less heat, which in the summer months will decrease the amount of air conditioning needed to keep the classroom cool.

Since the Expandable programs do not require a huge amount of computing power to run in the training environment, the shared computing model is ideal for the classroom.

Virtualization software and hardware is used to distribute computing power so that it can be simultaneously shared by multiple users. Each user's monitor, keyboard, and mouse connect to the shared PC through a small access device which itself has no CPU, memory, or moving parts.

The result is more efficient use of computing power which minimizes the amount of electricity required to run the classroom and reduces the amount of hardware needed. And with no hard drives or fan noise the classroom is much quieter.
