| Regional User Meetings Update |
Three local user group meetings were held recently - two in Orange County and the one in San Diego. |
| OC User’s Meetings |
by Bill Cowley |
| The Orange County User’s Group met for lunch at Glaukos in March. Bob Swedroe joined us as we gathered to see a review of Expandable 9.0 and the preparation needed for the upgrade. This was followed with a quick roadmap tour into the future of Expandable’s development (hurry guys, it looks good from here). As we ate our lunch (sponsored by Vertos) there was some talk of an iPad application in the works… |
| We circled the wagons again on May 11, at NeoMend. Dave Hansen showed NeoMend’s product and explained the processes developed as a startup and in the 1st year with Expandable. We met for an Open Forum Discussion, with no set topic and Bob Swedroe and Wes Williams surprised us with a visit. We took advantage of the situation and pummeled them with questions. Bob and Wes were forthcoming and candid in their remarks. They explored the possibilities along with the difficulties of developing within quickly changing technology and the needs of the customers. |
| We moved into a discussion of the complexity of Sales Tax reporting today. How the rules and rates for states and counties, cities and districts can overwhelm the manual tax code structure within Expandable. We discussed the merits of the upload for ADP Taxware’s Veratax Sales Tax Upload program. This is an excellent program but it should become more flexible and robust to help us stay compliant in a maze of regulations. Bob quickly challenged us with formulating a new CER to help set the directions for new development. **If you have any specific needs or suggestions for improving the Sales Tax process, please let me know** |
We will meet again, in July, to discuss our progress and share ideas. If you’re interested in keeping up with when and where the Orange County meetings are being planned, please let me know at orangecountygroup@ieuga.org. |
| San Diego Meeting |
by Bob Fraustein |
| The San Diego Expandable User’s Group, spawned from the International gathering of the Expandable faithful in Portland in 2006, held its bi-monthly meeting on Wednesday April 13, 2011. |
| The meeting, attended by users representing a good cross-section of duties within companies using Expandable, focused on the version 9.0 upgrade. |
Bob Swedroe, Expandable's head honcho attended and led the vibrant demo. The new user interface is cool. We can’t wait. If you’re in San Diego on June 15th, plan to attend our next meeting during which we will be exploring best practices related to crafting unit of measure conversion. Even if you don’t like the subject, you might enjoy the sandwich and the opportunity to network with peers. |
