Software Installer Simplifies v9.0 Migration
Upgrading to the latest major release of Expandable will be much easier thanks to the new installer that is being introduced with v9.0.
The installer is designed to simplify the upgrade process when migrating from release to release. The introduction of the new installer is specific to customers migrating from v8.4.1 to v9.0. Those upgrading to v9.0 from versions prior to 8.4.1 will need to migrate to v8.4.1 before installing v9.0.
The new installer scrubs the entire Expandable database to validate the database schema and provides a log of all the database files inspected during the upgrade and the resulting action attempted or completed. To make it easy to spot errors and warnings, the log report highlights warning messages in yellow and reports any errors encountered in red.
The installer will fix duplicate indexes, identify any missing fields and verify that stored procedures are compiled properly.
Since v9.0 includes a migration to double-byte data field capability, the installer will go through and update the entire database.
Triggers Remain in Place
Those users who have created database triggers will be happy to know that the new installer does not affect triggers, so they will no longer lose their triggers with each upgrade.
